An Electric Strike Lock (often called an Electric Door Strike) is a type of access control device used for doors. Instead of directly locking/unlocking the door, it controls the door latch (the part of the lock that fits into the strike plate in the door frame).

What is an Electric Strike Lock?

An electric strike is a metal plate with a motorized or solenoid-controlled latch keeper installed in the door frame. When activated, it allows the door to open without manually turning the knob. It works with mechanical door locks, such as cylindrical locks, mortise locks, or rim exit devices.

How it Works

  • The door’s lock latch normally rests in the strike plate (like a standard door strike).

  • When the strike is energized (or de-energized, depending on type), it moves the keeper, releasing the latch.

  • The door can then be pushed/pulled open without turning the knob/handle.

  • Used with access control systems (keypads, card readers, biometric devices, intercoms, remote buttons, etc.).

Types of Electric Strike Locks

  • Fail-Safe (Power-to-Lock): Unlocks when power is lost (used in fire exits for safety).
  • Fail-Secure (Power-to-Open): Stays locked when power is lost (for higher security).
  • Surface-Mounted & Mortise-Mounted: Based on installation type.
  • AC/DC Compatible: Different voltage (usually 12V or 24V).
